Mississippi State University and the Department of Housing & Residence Life welcome all new and returning students to campus and campus housing. During MVNU2MSU (Moving You to MSU), residents check in for housing assignments at Humphrey Coliseum. Once your assignment is confirmed, you may begin moving into your residence hall. Over 200 volunteers will be on hand to assist with check-in, direct traffic, assist with unloading cars, and help move your belongings into your rooms.

Dawg Daze BBQ with a Global Twist

MSU Golf Course Open

Regularly ranked as one of the nation's best golf courses, the 6,927–yard MSU Golf course is an 18&ndash hole, par 72, PGA sanctioned championship course. Widely considered on the of finest courses in the state, the MSU Golf Course is open to students, staff, and the general public for recreational golf, academic activities, golf instruction, camps, and tournaments. Dallas Jessup – Just Yell Fire

America's best known street fighting, self-defense expert is a 17-year old woman and college freshman. Traveling an average of 10,000 miles a month, Dallas Jessup is coming to teach Mississippi State students how to further protect themselves on campus. Ms. Jessup will present her instructional film, "Just Yell Fire" and will present a demonstration on how to protect yourself from an unwanted advance.

Dallas Jessup is the founder and spokesperson for the non-profit "Just Yell Fire" project and is the author of Young Revolutionaries Who Rock,a how-to guide for any young person who wants to change the world. In her book she chronicles her own experience on the front lines of youth activism to fight sexual predators, turning it into a non-profit revolution in 45 countries. This CNN Hero is regularly in the media with numerous appearances on The Today Show, People Magazine, and USA Today. Ms. Jessup will be signing her books following the presentation.

Art Gallery Reception: Dylan Karges “Timeless and Changing”

The Colvard Union Art Gallery presents museum shows, traveling exhibits, student shows, and group and solo exhibitions by professional artists. On display during Dawg Daze will be original art work by local artist Dylan Karges. Dylan received a BFA from MSU in 2002 with an emphasis in sculpture and has experience as a studio artist, sculptor, and exhibitor. While an intern at the Cobb Institute of Archaeology, he began creating miniature men inspired by statues from excavations in Israel. What started as a small-scale project grew as he became more exposed to the history and religious chronology of the region. His collection has blossomed into an entire village of more than 1,500 little men. Please join us at the reception for your chance to meet the artist. Light refreshments will be served.
